The Urban Arrow Family is the bike that built the European family-cargo movement. Designed in Amsterdam in 2010, refined every year since, built by hand in the same workshop — it's the bike every other cargo bike was reverse-engineered from. If you've seen a family on a cargo bike doing the school run in Dublin, Cork or Galway, it was probably this one.
The wedge is the foam. The cargo box is made of EPP — expanded polypropylene — the same material as a child's bike helmet. It weighs less than a wooden box, is designed to absorb impact, lasts well in wet weather, and doesn't rust. It's the engineering choice that lets the bike carry significant cargo without weighing 60 kg. Urban Arrow uses EPP foam where most competitors use wood. The engineering choice is why they remain the category benchmark.
