A second car costs thousands a year once you add fuel, insurance, motor tax, NCT, parking and repairs. A cargo e-bike costs a small fraction of that to run.
The financial case for a cargo bike is the easy part. No fuel, no motor tax, no NCT, no hunting for parking. A second car carries all of those costs for a job that, in most cases, an e-bike does better.
The harder part to explain is what changes on the day you ride it. The school run is the obvious one. No idling in the line outside the gates. Kids who arrive looking like they have already had a small adventure and ask for the bike on the way home.
The decision you are making is not "can I replace a car with a bike." It is "can I imagine my next twelve weeks with this in the hallway." That is a decision best made by riding one, not reading about one.
