The real cost of your commute

Your car is costing you
more than you think.

Fuel, insurance, NCT, motor tax, parking, repairs — it all adds up to over €4,000 a year for the average Irish driver. And that's before you count the hours lost sitting in traffic.

€4,218 average annual car running cost
€1,739Fuel
€616Insurance
€435Motor tax
€736Servicing
€692Parking

An e-bike costs roughly €50 a year to run. No insurance, no NCT, no motor tax, no fuel. Just a bike that gets you there faster.

Simple as that

How the scheme works.

Your employer buys the bike. You repay through salary sacrifice — before Income Tax, PRSI and USC. No forms. No fuss.

01
Choose your bike

Visit any GreenAer store and pick the e-bike that suits your commute. We'll help you find the right fit — no pressure, just expertise.

02
Talk to your employer

Ask HR or payroll to set up the scheme. Most Irish employers are already registered — it typically takes a day to arrange.

03
Ride and save

Repayments come from your gross salary before tax. You never pay Income Tax, PRSI or USC on the scheme amount — saving up to 52%.

Beyond the money

What really changes.

The savings get you interested. The rest keeps you on the bike.

1.
Arrive on time. Every time.

No traffic jams. No parking stress. E-bike commuters in Dublin arrive more consistently than car or bus — and in a considerably better mood.

2.
Better headspace, daily.

Cycling to work is consistently linked to lower stress and a better mood than driving. Fresh air and movement before a desk job is a genuine mental health intervention.

3.
Fresh air, built into your day.

You're outside twice a day, moving through the city instead of sitting in it. Choose your effort — light on hard days, harder when you want it.

4.
Your commute is now a workout.

A 10km e-bike commute burns 250–400 calories. Do that 5 days a week and your fitness pays for itself — no gym membership required.

There are no silly questions

Frequently asked.

Everything you need to know before you commit to nothing.

Yes. The Cycle to Work scheme has no minimum usage requirement — it's simply a tax-efficient way to buy the bike. Even three days a week saves you significantly on fuel and parking.
Most Irish employers are already registered — it costs them nothing and has tax benefits for the business too. Ask HR or payroll. If they're not set up, we can point you to resources that make it straightforward. It usually takes a day to arrange.
You pay the difference yourself. So if your e-bike costs €3,000 and the scheme covers €1,500, you get the tax relief on the first €1,500 and pay the remaining €1,500 directly. We also offer Humm finance to spread the balance over 24 or 36 months.
Higher-rate taxpayers save up to 52% (40% Income Tax + 4% PRSI + 8% USC). Standard-rate taxpayers save up to 32%. On a €1,500 e-bike that's between €480 and €780 off.
€1,250 for a standard bike, €1,500 for an e-bike, €3,000 for a cargo bike (electric or otherwise). You can spend more — you just only get tax relief on the scheme-eligible portion.
Not compared to a car. Our Standard eBike Service is €120 (labour only); parts are quoted separately. eCargo bikes start at €230. Our service team is exclusively for GreenAer customers — we keep your bike running for as long as you own it.
We work with specialist e-bike insurance providers offering cover from €5.25 per month. Your household insurance may not fully cover a premium e-bike — dedicated cover is worth it for peace of mind.
Once every four years. So if you use it in 2026, you can claim it again from 2030 — perfect timing for an upgrade.
Yes — helmets, locks, lights, mudguards, panniers, child seats, and high-vis gear all count toward the scheme limit. We'll help you build the package.
Yes, as long as you're both employed and your employers are both registered. Two separate bikes, two separate tax reliefs.

A 20-minute test ride answers every question. No pressure, no commitment — just the best e-bikes in Ireland and people who know them inside out.
